About Anne Currier Anne Currier received her B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago and her M.F.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle. Ms. Currier has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Virginia A. Groot Foundation. She was honored with the American Crafts Council College of Fellows career achievement award.

Groot Foundation Grant. Earlier this year, the Poloncarz administration went back to the county legislature seeking additional funding to study additional sites and explore in more detail the size and amenities needed to compete with other markets like Charlotte, but was turned down. That could prove problematic for the integrity of the study, presumably intended to be comprehensive. Also problematic was the lack of any opportunity for community input while the study was underway, an unfortunate characteristic it shares with the ECC facilities study of 2012. And, oddly given the subject of the study, that lack of input seems to extend to the business community – Jim Fink of Buffalo Business First told WBFO that he has talked with a number of people in the business community and in real estate development who didn’t have the chance to weigh in.

The exhibition is fittingly presented in the Sylvia L. Rosen Gallery for Fine Art in Craft Media, named for the Burchfield Penney’s patron whose generous support makes the biennial exhibition possible, as well as collection development. Past recipients of the Langley H. Kenzie Award include Bethany Krull (2010), Karen Donnellan (2012), Jesse Walp (2014), and Jozef Bajus (2016), who respectively work with ceramics, glass, wood, and fiber with recycled materials.
From its Bran+Luebbe (B+L) brand, SPX FLOW offers the cleverly designed NOVAPLEX Vector process triplex diaphragm pump. It harnesses the proven B+L diaphragm pump head design in a configuration that reduces installation footprint by arranging pump heads in three dimensions. Not only does this pump offer a compact solution, the arrangement of the heads reduces the number of crankshaft bearings from six to two, compared with B+L traditional Triplex Pumps. This use of fewer moving parts increases reliability of the pump as well as reducing maintenance overheads.
Protein knot-tying task. One 17-ALA molecule was loaded into the iMD VR app. Before starting the task on each of the platforms, users were shown a brief instructional video on the task. Users were then instructed to tie a 31 or trefoil knot in 17-ALA. The task had a time limit of 180 s, and completion was marked as the point at which a stable trefoil knot was formed in 17-ALA. The Android port always lagged behind the iOS version, but late in 2017, Asmodee Digital, which had just acquired the license to the game, released a new version of Carcassonne for both Android and Steam, and it’s excellent (pictured above). The look and feel is very different from the top-down iOS version, offering an isometric view instead that gives the tiles some texture, although you can switch to top-down if you prefer that. The iOS app is cleaner to look at, while the Asmodee version offers more animations to give it more of the feel of a video game. There are three AI opponents, an easy one, a hard one, and a “risk-taker.” So far, the Asmodee version offers the Abbot and River expansions as in-app purchases.
