The pulse jets used on the V1 or “buzz bombs” were valved pulse jets. They had reed type valves behind the intake to prevent exhaust flow out the intake. The problem with that is the heat and mechanical stress on those valves makes them very short lived. One of the problems with the V1 was reliability. Many of them never made it anywhere near their intended target. Of course they weren’t very accurate either. So, the intended target was basically anywhere in England they mind happen to land. The Pulse jet on this go kart appears to be valveless pulse jet. From the appearance, I would say it’s the Lockwood-Hiller design. Anyway, being a valveless pulse jet both openings function as both intake and exhaust therefore the engine must be bent into a ‘U’ shape to develop forward thrust.

While Rusted Root is on hiatus, Michael has been devoting his time to creating an entirely new soundscape. Glabicki’s new solo project is aptly titled, Uprooted. This band promises to bring back parts of the Rusted Root of old, but also include more percussion and female vocals. Collectively, the band hopes that the new material will deliver it to a special place that the fans will appreciate. Michael will continue to play Rusted Root’s entire catalogue with freshly inspired versions, as well as introduce new and exciting music under the moniker of Uprooted.

5. Vacuum Secondary TricksIf you’ve ever tried to change the vacuum secondary spring in a Holley diaphragm module, you know it requires dexterity and patience. Sean Murphy showed us how to do it without tearing the fragile rubber. Place the rubber diaphragm into the lower housing and then set the base on your vise with the steel shaft extending through the jaws.  Position the rubber diaphragm on the base in the correct orientation. Make sure the hole that seals the diaphragm transfer slot is uncovered. Lightly clamp the steel diaphragm shaft in the vise.
