Aortic stenosisValvular aortic stenosis (AS) may be congenital or acquired. The causes of acquired valvular AS are more common and include calcific degeneration, rheumatic heart disease (more commonly affecting the mitral valve), infective endocarditis(IE), radiation, and drugs (such as fenfluramine). Calcific degeneration occurs as a result of mechanical stress across the AV which initiates inflammatory processes that ultimately cause calcium deposition from osteoblasts.

The Burchfield Penney Langley H. Kenzie Award was created to honor Mrs. Kenzie’s dedication as an artist and to support others like her.
