Yes, if: we can use this project to fix one or more of the post-war urban mistakes that have marred a downtown that otherwise has good bones and a great urban form – perhaps even greater than many urban planners realize, and certainly greater than most leaders and public officials realize, or they wouldn’t be making the poorly considered plans and decisions we still see. If we can’t turn that around and change how we do downtown with this project, then is there really any hope that we’ll ever start getting it right? More than any other project, this is the one where we have to do that, because a shiny new jewel in the same tarnished setting isn’t the kind of ring that a prospective visitor is going to accept from an old suitor asking for another chance.

A remanufacturing line has the same high quality standards of an OE (original equipment) assembly process. The difference comes in the amount of part numbers that the line has to handle. For example, the process of remanufacturing an air compressor involves finish-grinding the journal on the shaft. We can regrind a shaft up to four times. To accommodate that removal of material, we need to use a thicker bushing. So there’s not just one part number for a bushing, there are four part numbers.

The pulse jets used on the V1 or “buzz bombs” were valved pulse jets. They had reed type valves behind the intake to prevent exhaust flow out the intake. The problem with that is the heat and mechanical stress on those valves makes them very short lived. One of the problems with the V1 was reliability. Many of them never made it anywhere near their intended target. Of course they weren’t very accurate either. So, the intended target was basically anywhere in England they mind happen to land. The Pulse jet on this go kart appears to be valveless pulse jet. From the appearance, I would say it’s the Lockwood-Hiller design. Anyway, being a valveless pulse jet both openings function as both intake and exhaust therefore the engine must be bent into a ‘U’ shape to develop forward thrust.
