A game by design luminary Reiner Knizia — who’s perfect for digital adaptations, since his games tend to have math-based mechanics — this pits two to four players against each other for control of building tiles on a board … but the catch is that you gain points in the four different building colors, and then you’re judged on the lowest of those four scores. The player with the best low score wins. It’s one of Knizia’s mathiest games underneath, but plays out as one of his most interactive because the mechanics allow players to seize control of huge portions of the board, even well into the game.
High in the sky and far from their Nebraska home, the airmen aboard Tora 82 knew they were in trouble.
I mean, he sold flamethrowers. Flamethrowers! Who even remembers that Tesla employees were apparently forced to work around the body of an employee who passed out when there are videos of a grown man giggling about his new flamethrower?

“Currier’s sculpture is both a study in balance and an invitation to discovery,” said Nancy Weekly, exhibition curator. As she has stated, her Anamorphosis series reflects, “the interplay of masses and voids. Absence and presence, light and shadow, stasis and motion are subject matter. The dimensional tension and dynamics of human figures found in Greek and Buddhist temple pediments, and most recently, the structural flatness and synthesis of planar shapes in Cubist still-life paintings intrigue me.”
Six years ago, Buffalo’s urban renaissance hopes got a splash of cold water. Abuzz with excitement over the recently announced Buffalo Billion, and still basking in the glow from hosting the prior year’s national preservation conference, we got a stony cold rejection letter from the National Association of Sports Commissions. They weren’t interested in holding their conference here, and didn’t mind telling us why, including this:

Everyone has heard Winston Churchill’s famous quote, “We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.” The same could be said for cities: as a city, to a great extent, what you build – and how – determines what kind of city you become. Early on, many cities are the product of geography, and that was certainly so for early Buffalo. But when a city grows to attract the resources to build beyond individual dwellings and shops, building projects can have far-reaching consequences far into the future. The convention center is the latest in two centuries of such projects and decisions.
