10. Power Valve TuningThere’s more to tuning the Holley power valve on the primary side than just choosing when the valve opens. Let’s say you have a 750 double-pumper Holley 0-4779. On your engine, let’s say someone (not you, of course) has messed with the carburetor and it now has 75 primary jet and an 85 power valve (71 jet is stock). This means the power valve will open at 8.5 inches of vacuum. On all Holleys there are two power valve channel restrictors (PVCR) that determine the amount of fuel delivered to the boosters over and above the fuel metered by the jets when the power valve opens. Generally these restrictors are permanently drilled passages in the metering block. The newer HP and Ultra XP carbs come with screw-in restrictors.

“Currier’s sculpture is both a study in balance and an invitation to discovery,” said Nancy Weekly, exhibition curator. As she has stated, her Anamorphosis series reflects, “the interplay of masses and voids. Absence and presence, light and shadow, stasis and motion are subject matter. The dimensional tension and dynamics of human figures found in Greek and Buddhist temple pediments, and most recently, the structural flatness and synthesis of planar shapes in Cubist still-life paintings intrigue me.”

As it turns out, there are two more aspects of this problem. Not only are we limited in our ability to predict how much hydrazine each activity will require but our measurement of how much hydrazine Dawn has remaining is imperfect too. We know that when it left Earth, riding atop a Delta rocket, the 12-gallon (45-liter) hydrazine tank was filled with 99.8 pounds (45.3 kilograms) of the propellant. In the subsequent 11.5 years, every time it has fired a thruster, the spacecraft has dutifully recorded the duration (in milliseconds) and reported that to mission control at JPL. It has also sent telemetry on the temperature and pressure in the hydrazine tank. With that information, engineers can calculate how much hydrazine is expended in each pulse of a thruster and, more to the point, how much is left in the tank. It is now down to about 1.8 gallons (7 liters). But no physical measurement is perfectly accurate. As only one example, the sensors that read the temperature and pressure have been subjected to violent shaking during the rocket's fiery ascent as well as almost a dozen years in space. Their readings now may be off a little bit one way or the other. The determination of how much hydrazine is still onboard thus has some uncertainty.

Trimble, who grew up on a dairy, graduated from veterinary school five years ago and is married to a veterinarian. He has had a front-row seat to the economic and professional realities that challenge younger veterinarians. With experience in a traditional clinic and as a house-call veterinarian, Trimble said he created Fuzzy Pet Health to offer veterinarians “control over their future.” The model isn’t about grabbing a visit here and there. Trimble said he “wants to provide a path to full-time.”
