Holley’s kit is simple to install, using a standard TPS sensor adapted to follow the primary throttle linkage movement, but this kit does require a carburetor using an electric choke. If you have a Holley without a choke, you’re still in luck. Innovate Motorsports and HGM Electronics both make nice conversion kits that work on the Holley. HGM is the company that makes the very nice CompuShift controller for the electronically controlled overdrives. In fact, the HGM AccuLink is designed to work with Holley, Q-jet, and the Edelbrock carburetors.

Whenever a force acts upon a spring of any kind, the amount of movement that results in the spring is known as its deflection. Most springs actuated within their elastic limit will obey Hooke’s Law, which states that the force (F) needed to compress or extend a spring is equal to the product of the spring constant (k) times the distance traveled (x) (aka its deflection). In other words, the compression or extension of any spring is proportional to its force.

There is some confusion around this as older tuning stories mention requiring clearance here, but only with the linkage at wide-open throttle (WOT). At idle, there should be zero clearance or even a slight preload between the linkage and the actual diaphragm. If clearance exists, merely adjust the pump linkage with a pair of 3/8-inch wrenches. Once this is properly adjusted, it’s also possible that the accelerator pump nozzle size can be reduced. Too much fuel from an overzealous tuning approach can be just as detrimental to good throttle response and too little nozzle size, although the driveability symptoms will be different.

While Rusted Root is on hiatus, Michael has been devoting his time to creating an entirely new soundscape. Glabicki’s new solo project is aptly titled, Uprooted. This band promises to bring back parts of the Rusted Root of old, but also include more percussion and female vocals. Collectively, the band hopes that the new material will deliver it to a special place that the fans will appreciate. Michael will continue to play Rusted Root’s entire catalogue with freshly inspired versions, as well as introduce new and exciting music under the moniker of Uprooted.

Although the ensemble cast enjoys a seasoned pedigree that reads like a late-night summer festival all-star jam, this fledgling “nu-sion” project is growing a unique and rabid following by commanding audiences at theaters, clubs, and major national festivals since 2012.

As she has stated, her Anamorphosis series reflects, “the interplay of masses and voids. Absence and presence, light and shadow, stasis and motion are subject matter. The dimensional tension and dynamics of human figures found in Greek and Buddhist temple pediments, and most recently, the structural flatness and synthesis of planar shapes in Cubist still-life paintings intrigue me.”

Torsion springs resemble compression springs, but are activated differently. Whereas compression strings are stressed in torsion, or by twisting the elastic material, torsion springs are stressed in bending. They are found in clothespins, pop-up electronics, and lots of other things with jaws.
