Figure 3 shows that our VR platform provides a clear advantage over conventional visualization/interaction platforms, and this advantage appears to increase as the complexity of the problem increases. To better understand the results, we carried out further evaluation in the form of participant questionnaires and interviews (detailed in the Supplementary Materials). Despite the fact that very few of the study participants had previous VR experience, participants indicated an overwhelming preference for VR in carrying out the Fig. 3 tasks (compared to a mouse or touchscreen) for three reasons: (i) quick perception of depth, (ii) the ability to inspect the molecule by walking around it, and (iii) the use of both hands to accomplish the tasks.

Beginning in 2009, Currier has collaborated with Boston Valley Terra Cotta to create unique ceramic tiles for interior walls. Her first commission, La Stanza di Linea, is a 14 x 40-foot wall in the Choral Room in the Miller Performing Arts Center at Alfred University. Incorporating three different tiles to create the pattern, the tiles were mounted to the wall utilizing Boston Valley’s unique clip system. Next, BKSK, the architectural firm that designed 688 Broadway, a 14-unit luxury apartment building in New York City’s NOHO neighborhood, chose one of Currier’s Boston Valley Terra Cotta tiles for installation in the entryway.

The news about the 55th Wing comes at a time of increasing concern throughout the military about aircraft safety. An April investigative report in the newspaper Military Times showed that moderately serious mishaps (those involving damage of $50,000 to $500,000) have risen 40 percent across  all military branches since 2013. The Military Times list of mishaps included several from the 55th Wing.

One such business was founded by a man frustrated that the college he attended didn't impress finance companies that hire heavily among Ivy League alumni. Called HireVue, the video platform presents all people who apply for a particular job with an identical set of interview questions designed by a team of psychologists to elicit responses that predict success or failure in the role.

Ms. Currier has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Virginia A. Groot Foundation. She was honored with the American Crafts Council College of Fellows career achievement award.

Drawing some inspiration from nature’s palette observed from her Allegany County home and studio, Currier creates surfaces reminiscent of mottled boulders, slate and rust, as well as intangible fog.
