Brian Scully (vocals/acoustic guitar), Jon Silva (lead guitar), James Zaner (drums), Sam Bouve (bass) and Ryan Jackson (keys/guitars) rip through shows with frenetic energy, perhaps best described as country music, tinged with Americana heartland vibes, and played with a bar-friendly edge-of-punk rowdiness. Everyone sings along. The patrons are as much a part of the show as the band itself. The result is a live band that manages to make every show — from small clubs to the largest of festivals — feel a little like a reunion of like-minded souls at their favorite local bar.
Here are the day’s first customers. They’re pensioners who can afford a treat, rather Ashkenazi-looking in their Birkenstocks, Reeboks, and New Balances. Wiping her hands, Hadar goes to serve them at the counter next to the signed, stamped, dated, and framed kashrut certificate and the individual and group photos of team members current and former. The certificate vouches for the place and its products being not just kosher but ultra-kosher, issued as it is by Agudat Yisrael, a major ḥaredi political, educational, and welfare conglomerate. She takes cash and makes change, or swipes plastic, while Mordechai and Levi do the bagging and Sergio puts together the morning deliveries and Nadav wheels hot breads into the alley to cool and Russell supervises as Malcolm X humps 30-kilo sacks of flour down to the mixers from upstairs. Slight as Malcolm X is, he’s a brute.
Beginning in 2009, Currier has collaborated with Boston Valley Terra Cotta to create unique ceramic tiles for interior walls. Her first commission, La Stanza di Linea, is a 14 x 40-foot wall in the Choral Room in the Miller Performing Arts Center at Alfred University. Incorporating three different tiles to create the pattern, the tiles were mounted to the wall utilizing Boston Valley’s unique clip system. Next, BKSK, the architectural firm that designed 688 Broadway, a 14-unit luxury apartment building in New York City’s NOHO neighborhood, chose one of Currier’s Boston Valley Terra Cotta tiles for installation in the entryway.
I fully agree. I made [before I was chemist] lots of (good/bad) experiments with explosives, when making explosives was not considered as terrorism… black powder, TNT, hexogen, mercury fulminate (made in my parent’s freezer…) and other fine stuff But I you want to “teach” people the proper way and make your experiments interesting AND safe, gloves, and glasses are always needed. An extinguisher is also welcome. To protect yourself and to work as a scientist (2nd episode of breaking bad – use good tools, man). Btw, about clothes to protect your body and your arms, NEVER wear synthetic clothes : they melt and burn more (they will glue on your skin). That’s why chemist clothes are made of cotton…
It makes sense that Amber Blais was drawn to the circus life: The woman knows how to juggle. But we’re not talking about multicolored balls or chainsaws here; Blais knows how to handle a tricky schedule. She spent more than five years as the communications manager for Wonderbound, a local contemporary dance troupe, and in her limited hours outside of work, she launched two creative enterprises. Raconteur Denver is a free bimonthly storytelling series held around town (mostly at coffeeshops and bars) à la New York City’s the Moth; Rainbow Militia, which Blais co-founded, is a circus collective that performs collaborative productions with local musicians and artists. “[Those endeavors] took up pretty much all of my free time,” she says. “There were times my friends would ask me to do things, and I would say no because I was working on my passion projects.”

About Uprooted: Back in the 90’s, Michael Glabicki had a vision he was driven to pursue. He left college, started a band despite the fact that he had no idea where the journey would deliver him. He spent two years developing this vision while learning the craft of songwriting. That vision grew into Rusted Root, the multiplatinum band out of Pittsburgh, and Michael became one of music’s most unique voices.
Concerns about building codes in Eagle River have also been brought to the forefront since the quake, which revealed to many people for the first time the differences between Anchorage and Eagle River building rules. Because Chugiak-Eagle River is outside the municipality’s designated building safety zone, contractors here are not required to submit their plans to the municipality for inspection, nor must they have homes inspected by a municipal inspector. Essentially, contractors must follow the same building codes as Anchorage, but they’re allowed to choose who enforces them.
There are many factors to consider when facilitating a preventative maintenance program. The biopharmaceutical industry is fairly unique in that valves are used in many different applications with different exposures to temperatures and harsh fluids. Different applications for valves can include steam-in-place (SIP) or high-temperature sterilization; cleaning in place (CIP) where caustics and acids act as detergents; cold processing where purification is usually below ambient conditions (2-8 °C typically); and purification processes, such as chromatography and filtration. Many of these processes run in sequence or through the same pipes, which means the valves are exposed to a wide range of application temperatures and conditions.

Anyway, she’s from Safed in Galilee, a town up in the hills where in the 16th century the Jewish mystic Isaac Luria was born and died and, thanks to this kabbalistic past, a town once visited by Madonna. Plus, a town where some nine decades ago the local Arabs, hearing that the Zionist Jews were about to level the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, the mosque from where the Prophet, may peace be upon him, flew to heaven, massacred some of the Jews, all of them black-coated anti-Zionists.
