About Anne Currier Anne Currier received her B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago and her M.F.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle. Ms. Currier has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Virginia A. Groot Foundation. She was honored with the American Crafts Council College of Fellows career achievement award.
Not having safety gear is just playing the odds. The “I’m too good for safety, that’s for everyone else” attitude does get people injured everyday across various disciplines. However we should still point out when stuff like this comes up that safety should be your first thought when engaging in engineering experiments. The news about the 55th Wing comes at a time of increasing concern throughout the military about aircraft safety. An April investigative report in the newspaper Military Times showed that moderately serious mishaps (those involving damage of $50,000 to $500,000) have risen 40 percent across all military branches since 2013. The Military Times list of mishaps included several from the 55th Wing.

Participants were given a Likert scale question to complete to clarify their familiarity with using VR and tablets, where 1 represents having no experience and 5 represents being very experienced. A breakdown of responses can be found in table S1. Together, self-reported VR experience was found to be low, where tablet use was more prevalent among the cohort. Given the education level of the group, mouse familiarity was again assumed to be high.
